Something I've continued to find amusing about the 2021 anime is that it is not even remotely aimed at newcomers. All aboard the nostalgia train. I finished my reread of Shaman King the other day and there were so many things I'd forgotten or that hit very differently when I was younger. XD I am now 100% convinced Takei was trolling us with some of these reveals, something that hadn't really occurred to me in the past. Allow me to elaborate.

I spent a significant chunk of time today reading the Shaman King manga so I might be caught up to where the anime is at. I have read 11 volumes today (which puts me at volume 13 because I read the first one earlier this month) and now my head is spinning with Shaman King knowledge. In a previous post I mentioned how I was unhappy with what the VNC anime is doing, and most of that still stands, but I will say that they've won me back with episode five. It had the good stuff, the good stuff evidently being Noé's backstory and tragedy, despair, etc. etc.

I ended up watching the first episode in the dead of night and this resulted in me staying up a lot longer because, of course, all I could think about was Shaman King afterwards.
